Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday
The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will be taking place this weekend.
"It's Saturday, May 12," said Darren White with The Food Bank. "You'll be receiving a bag in your mailbox this week, if you've not already received it. You're encouraged to put food out in that bag on May 12. Letter carriers along with volunteers will pick that food up."
"It's very easy, " said Julie Taylor with the Sedalia Post Office. "All you have to do is open up your bag, put your food in it, sit it by your mailbox and either your mail carrier -or we have volunteers that help, too - will come around and pick it up."
In addition to non-perishable food items, monetary donations will also be collected for The Food Bank. "With every dollar (collected) The Food Bank is able to purchase $21 worth of groceries," said White.
About 14,800 pounds of food were collected during last year's food drive, in addition to monetary donations of over $4,000. "All of that funding will be used to purchase food for Pettis County," said White. "It's all local. The food goes directly to Open Door to help out those that are in need. They're serving over 5000 people every month. And of course the monetary donations are used to purchase food for this area in Pettis County."
