I know when I was a kid, it was hard to keep us all indoors.  Well, in the summer time, anyway.   So it can be hard for parents to encourage their kids to read over the summer time, which invariably  leads to a "summer slide". It happens. They're out of practice a little, and when you're learning a new skill like that, if you don't keep doing it, you can lose a little progress.

WELL, the Boonslick Regional Library is pulling out all the stops to keep the kids engaged and reading with the "Oceans Of Possibilities" program. Their summer reading program this year of course incorporates a book club, but it also has a TON more stuff for the kiddos to get engaged in.

This year we are excited to offer our Oceans of Possibilities SRP to our local youth. Events will include a Kick-off event, Storytime, Lego Club, an Early Childhood Play Group, Kids in the Kitchen, Teen Writing workshop with local author Angela Roquet, B.Y.O.L. (bring your own lunch) movies, Starfish dissection, Jellyfish Races, Buried Treasure VR, Food or Foe Sea Turtles, Hurricane Building, Sink or Float Challenge, Teen Steam program, and Lost at Sea D&D (Dungeons and Dragons).

I mean, that's a lot to choose from, not just for the little ones, but whole family!  Sounds like the library will be the hoppin place to be this summer, with a ton of fun everywhere you look.

Now for the adults, if you're looking to do something fun and maybe get a good deal, you might join them for their big Silent Auction that's coming up on May 31st.  They're going to have a lot of great stuff for you to check out, I mean, just look at the list of businesses that have donated to this event:

Vincent's Footwear, Bodyworks Day Spa, Ohio Hair Company, Becca's Framing, Classic Jewelry, State Fair Floral, Ozark Coffee, TrendSetterz Barber Co., Fitter's Fifth Street, Dick's Barber Shop, Anytime Fitness, Yeager's Harley Davidson, Applebee's, Stone Laser Imaging , B&B Theaters, El Tapatio, Panera Bread, Freddy's Steakburgers, Two-Bit Barber Shop, Golden Corral, Perkins, Mazzio's, Bandana's Barbecue, Kehde's BBQ, Colton's Steakhouse, Pizza Hut, Brian's Gym, Moore's Greenhouse, Pro Velo Cycle Sports, Hometown Dental, and Adagio Therapeutic Massage.

Even if you only bid on a couple of things....man, that's hard to choose from.  Maybe you'd have to bid on more than a few things after all! Anyway, the Friends of the Library will have that event, again on the 31st, at 6:00 p.m.  Check it out!

Librarily yours,
Behka
