The following cases were heard in the Circuit Court of Pettis County on February 1, 2016, and sent to KSIS Courtesy of Prosecuting Attorney Phillip T. Sawyer's Office.

Kevin Murray: 34, Sedalia, entered a guilty plea to felony Domestic Assault and felony Stealing.  Prosecutors alleged that on October 27, 2015 the defendant assaulted a family member by choking her.  During the course of the investigation law enforcement discovered multiple items that had previously been stolen from Wal Mart stored in the defendant’s garage. He was sentenced to 7 years on each count in the Department of Corrections.  The defendant will be sent to the Department of Corrections with the opportunity for release after 120 days with successful completion of an Institutional Drug Treatment Program and if there are no institutional problems during that time.

Troy Fogarty:  33, Sedalia, pled guilty to 3 felony counts of Stealing.  The Prosecutor alleged that in early November the defendant committed the thefts at Wal Mart, Menards and Aaron’s.  The defendant was sentenced to 4 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on each count.

Austin Gruber: 18, Sedalia, entered a pleas of guilty to 2 felony counts of Stealing and 2 felony counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.  On September 20, 2015 around 1 a.m. the defendant attempted to push a cart out of Wal Mart (containing close to $1,500 worth of merchandise) without paying.  Later the same day Mr. Gruber was apprehended by law enforcement when witnesses identified him as having stolen a portable generator from a local resident.  Mr. Gruber was found to be in possession of the generator as well as Methamphetamine and Clonazepam.  He was sentenced to 4 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on each count.

Dwayne Jones:  36, Sedalia, pleaded guilty to 2 separate felony offenses of DWI, the felony offenses of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest, and the misdemeanor offenses of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Revoked.  On January 9th, 2016, the defendant was involved in an automobile accident.  When officers arrived the defendant fled at a high rate of speed.  When Mr. Jones was apprehended it was discovered that he was intoxicated and the vehicle he was operating was reported stolen out of Benton County.  He was sentenced to the Missouri Department of Corrections for terms of 5 years on each of the DWI’s and the Tampering w/ a Motor Vehicle, 4 years for Resisting Arrest and a concurrent 30 days on each misdemeanor.
