Matthew Clark, State Fair Community College Automotive Technology program coordinator and instructor, was named the 2022 Outstanding Employee of the Year by his peers at an employee recognition dinner in June. He started at SFCC in 2007 as an adjunct and became full-time in 2017.

Clark’s colleagues described him as friendly, caring and passionate about student success and his work as an instructor. Despite many hours in the classroom and automotive shop, he finds time to meet with students, engage with industry partners and assist coworkers.

Clark is always willing to stop what he is doing to answer a call or text or juggle planned and unplanned visits with prospective students, parents, teachers, or local and regional businesses. When remote learning was implemented during the pandemic, Clark and his team found ways to keep students safe while ensuring learning was not compromised. Clark is a great asset to the college and cares about his students and helping them succeed.

This past year, Clark and his colleagues worked hard to receive Master Automobile Service Technician re-accreditation through the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation. This certifies that SFCC’s lead instructors are professionals and can provide advanced-level instruction that prepares students to take ASE Certification tests.

The Outstanding Employee of the Year award recognizes one employee who demonstrates excellence, fosters admiration among colleagues, holds high performance standards, and exemplifies the college’s mission. Employees submit nominations to Human Resources that oversees the award process.
