DNR To Host Earth Day Celebration April 26

More than 1,000 children from schools across Missouri will visit Jefferson City Friday to join in the 2019 Earth Day celebration.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the department’s annual event.

The students will have opportunities to engage in a wide variety of games and other fun activities designed to help them learn about and celebrate the natural environment. The public is also welcome to participate in the free event.

Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Earth Day celebration will feature more than 30 booths, interactive environmental displays, crafts and entertainment.  The event will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Carnahan Memorial Garden behind the Governor’s Mansion in Jefferson City.

Honored during the celebration will be Logan Cox, a fifth-grade student from Pierce City Middle School, who won the department’s Earth Day slogan contest with his entry: "Show-Me a Cleaner State.” Logan was among more than 230 Missouri fifth graders who entered the annual slogan contest.

Logan will receive a certificate of appreciation from the department and a $50 gift card donated by Central Bank in Jefferson City, as well as a set of natural resource trading cards and a rock and mineral set from the Missouri Geological Survey. Logan will receive his certificate and prizes at 11 a.m. on the Earth Day stage.
