Ferguson Earns $50,000 By Winning Show-Me 100

A driver from Mount Holly, North Carolina took the lead late and walked away with the largest winnings in Lucas Oil Speedway History Saturday Night.

2020 Diamond Nationals Winner Chris Ferguson took the lead at Lucas Oil Speedway with 12 laps to go to win the Show-Me 100 and $50,000 cash prize. Ferguson finished 3.04 seconds ahead of runner-up Ricky Thornton, Jr. Third place went to Tim McCreadie and four-time Show-Me 100 winner Jimmy Owens placed fourth.

Ferguson started the race tenth and spent the first half of the race working his way into contention and was running third by lap 75. Dominating the race and leading for all but eight of the first 87 laps was Jonathan Davenport. Ferguson closed in on Davenport coming off of turn two on lap 88.

According to the track's press release here's what happened next:

Pulling just in front off the turn, Ferguson had to check up for the lapped car of Earl Pearson Jr. Davenport and Ferguson went into turn three side by side, but as the leaders cleared Pearson, they made contact.

Ferguson was able to keep his car pointed straight and Davenport, the 2015 Show-Me 100 winner, spun and had to go to the rear for the restart and his chances dashed. Davenport wound up finishing 16th.
