The Sedalia Business Women’s Legislative Committee will host a free, community training presentation on the subject of the Missouri Sunshine Law, Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The presentation will be conducted by Jay Turner, Director of Sunshine Law Compliance for the Missouri Attorney General’s office. The training is open to all state/county/local entities and the general public. It will be held at the Heckart Community Center in Community Rooms B/C.

The training will cover such topics as: who the Sunshine Law applies to, who the law doesn’t apply to, public meeting requirements, responding to public record requests, and Sunshine Law best practices. The Missouri Sunshine Law guarantees the public’s right to access information from public governmental bodies in Missouri.

The law states that meetings, records, votes, actions, and deliberations of such bodies should be open to the public unless otherwise provided by law. The law is meant to promote transparency and accountability in government.
