S-C’s VanNatta to play soccer at Metropolitan CC
Smith-Cotton High School senior Gracie VanNatta has accepted an athletic scholarship to play soccer at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City.
VanNatta, the daughter of Dana and Dustin Goosen, has played for the Lady Tigers soccer team all four years of high school, earning two varsity letters through her junior season.
S-C Girls Soccer Head Coach Meredith Brick said: “Gracie is a late bloomer, only starting her soccer career in 7th grade. Where she has lacked in long-standing experience, she has made up with her growth mindset and commitment to improve. She worked up to being a significant varsity contributor as a defender, appearing in 18 of 21 games her sophomore year then becoming a varsity starter and playing 24 of 24 games by her junior year.”

Brick praised VanNatta’s dedication to improvement, noting how she consistently participates in optional workouts and skill sessions in the offseason.
“When in training, she accepts constructive feedback with a smile, thumbs-up, or clarifying question which shows her willingness to intake critical information that will build her knowledge and skill,” Brick said. “She has been committed to grow as a person and player while in our program. We are excited to see how she continues to develop as she extends her soccer career to the collegiate level.”
