A hot air balloon has made an accidental landing in the middle of a residential street in Columbia.

The Columbia Missourian reports that crew chief Marianne Jay said the balloon was harder to steer than expected.

Her husband, Kenny Jay, missed his original landing site Monday at a church. But he managed to miss all obstacles as he set the balloon down several hundred feet from the site. A crew member and pilot friend assisted in navigating the slightly elevated balloon to the grass of the church.

Neighboring residents gathered to watch the stabilization and deflation of the balloon and offered a helping hand. Kenny Jay joked that the hardest part was deflating and cleaning up the balloon in the aftermath.
