Usually, I'm the go to person for music trivia.  When we used to have trivia nights for a charity or something, when it got to the  music category, everyone looked at me. Show time, you know?  I've always been that person.  I'm the person the girls always want to have as a partner in Trivial Pursuit. I'm the person Husbando asks, "Who sang that one song..."  as he hums a little melody, and I tell him what it is.  Sometimes when he's really bored, he likes to try to quiz me and see how quickly I can identify a song and singer from random mixes on YouTube. He finds it quite amusing, like I'm a little freak show on the other side of the couch.

And most of the time, it doesn't matter what genre it is. I can probably tell you a little trivia about Bessie Smith, Hank Williams Jr., Connie Francis, Herman's Hermits, whatever. Admittedly I've been a bit lax on the new stuff the past few years (that's what falling down the rabbit hole does to you, my friend) but I have a general idea of what's going on.  It's helpful with my job, too.  You hear this stuff all the time, stuff comes up.

So since I've always been that person for Husbando, he was shocked the other day when my musical knowledge actually FAILED him.  Husbando was sitting around the house with  me, reading some online forum on his phone. I think it was a Reddit thread.  He started humming a song, and said, "What is that song? Who sings that?"

Well, I had no idea.  None. I had never heard it before.  A bit later, he had a "EUREKA" moment and found it.  It was this very song.

He just could not believe I had never heard that song.  Nope.  It's not something we really ever played on our stations, and... well, I can't really muster up a lot of interest in Dio.  I know who he is.  He was a replacement for Ozzy in Black Sabbath there for a while and I know he had a long solo career.  But I don't know his music.  I only know one song, and its because of a South Park episode from like, ages ago. Clip is not safe for work, btw.  Swears.

But I don't think it's such a bad thing, like, he seems to think this Rainbow song is some classic staple that I should have heard dozens of times.  It just isn't.  My parents listened to eighties rock, sure, but not quite that metalish genre.  They were more like Van Halen and the Police and Genesis, the stuff we play on our station. So I guess stuff like this just slips through the cracks.

So after all these years, I have finally managed to come up blank on a musical trivia/music knowledge front.  I guess I'm glad I got this far.  Don't think I'll brush up on more Dio, though.  I'm willing to let that one go.

Trivially yours,
Behka
