I fully realize that I'm dancing with danger as I share this, but facts are facts. There's a new study that seems to prove that Missouri has some of the worst bosses in America.

I am one of the people who's been blessed to have really great employers over the years who are (nearly) all upstanding individuals. If that sounds like someone kissing someone else's posterior, that's because it is. That doesn't change the fact that a new study shared by Unwind Media where they surveyed over 2,000 workers who say Missouri's bosses are pretty deplorable. Look at this graphic before I dig into the details of why.

The details of who the bad bosses, where they work and what's wrong with them are what you might find most interesting. The study says the worst bosses work in the media, entertainment, hospitality, food services and manufacturing.

What makes a boss bad?

The #1 reason that employees thought their boss was less than fair was because they played favorites. A lack of empathy or concern for issues employees ran into was also a frequent negative. 76% also said that their boss micromanaged their workflow which is irritating.

The end result of working for a bad boss is anxiety or dread of going to work, thinking about switching careers and losing confidence in abilities. 54% of those surveyed said their boss had made them cry at some point. That's pathetic.

I believe that the key to being a good boss is hiring people you trust and have confidence in. That produces a positive atmosphere where the team can have synergy and get more done because everyone (boss and employees) are happier and don't second-guess each other once tasks are handed down. It's too bad that so many in Missouri say they don't have that in their workplace.
