Minor Missouri Quake Friday Followed by Stronger Jolt
It was only two hours prior to this that I was sharing the news about one of the strongest New Madrid quakes of 2025 happening Friday morning. That has now been followed by a stronger jolt which was felt by many in southern Missouri.
Earlier this morning, the USGS confirmed a 2.6 quake shook the Missouri boot heel. That was just followed by at least a magnitude 3 earthquake at 11:31am that has also been confirmed by the USGS.
This 2nd quake today happened in almost the exact same location as the first one. It's important to note that earthquake strength goes up exponentially for every .1 in magnitude. That means this newest New Madrid quake is much much stronger than the previous one.
Let's be clear that these two quakes do not necessarily mean a bigger event is coming, but the New Madrid Fault definitely has my attention. It's important to always be earthquake prepared in Missouri. You never know when this highly-seismic area will ruin our day. It could happen sooner than you think. Stay tuned.
