Well, it's officially over.  It's been ten days of nothing but animals, food, rides, exhibits, and fun.  But.... now what? If you're like me, the Fair is so much fun, but it takes a little something out of you.  I guess you can really have too much fun, right?  Then you're just what, back to your normal routine?  That's it?

Well, not quite.  Here are a few things I'd recommend for you, dear reader, to "recover" from the Missouri State Fair.

Make the effort to eat better.

I know, okay. I know. Dick's Corn Dogs are delicious.  Don't get me wrong, I've had my... 'fair' share.  But you need to get your digestive system back on track. So maybe make sure you have some lean meat and plenty of veggies.  And don't just drown an iceberg salad in ranch.  I see you.  Don't.  And I know and you know you spent a little extra time at the Bud Tent and probably even in the Wine Tent.  Drink water.

Hide the scale.

Don't ruin your Fair memories by stepping on a scale right after you get home. Seriously.  We know the Deep Fried Oreo wasn't good for you.  The cinnamon rolls as big as your head probably weren't either.  So don't bring yourself unnecessarily down just yet.

Get back to your normal sleep patterns as soon as you can.

I know I'm not one to stay up past 9:00 p.m. most nights.  Admittedly I get up at zero dark thirty, but you might not be used to howling at the moon during the Fair time either.  But how could you say  no, there were so many great concerts and things to do.... I get why you wanted to stay out.  After all, it's only once a year.  So if you can, head to bed at your normal time, get up at the normal time as soon as you can.  Your body will recognize this as a good thing, and set your circadian rhythm back.

Take time to decompress.

Ideally, I think you should take a day off work after the Fair.  Kinda like how some people take the day off after the Super Bowl.  I mean, they're both huge events that will shape the way you see things for the whole year, right?  Right.  So maybe take a day off or start taking a half day.  And ease into it. It’s tempting to return to your normal, busy routine the second you return home, but resist the urge. Planning a full schedule for the week after the Fair will likely lead to stress, exhaustion and burn out. Give yourself the leeway to ease back in.
