In her inaugural show at the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the State Fair Community College campus in Sedalia, Jane Booth will exhibit a selection of recent, immersive paintings starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.

In her studio, surrounded on all sides by the gently rolling landscape of eastern Kansas, Booth filters cyclical impressions of the outside world through an interior process that intuitively translates the concrete and material into colorfully vibrant compositions whose poetry re-imagines nature’s inspiration.

Citing the Eastern poets Rumi and Kabir as sympathetic forebears, Booth also incorporates aspects of the ecstatic and mystical in her heroically scaled paintings. Her evocations of emotions, landscapes, and mythologies are based in a painterly language of layered color fields, expressive calligraphy, and a feeling-filled application of paint, a spontaneous and gestural application of paint. Booth’s paintings call loudly even as they embody an indescribable introspection, a combination that attracts and holds the viewer in a rewarding give and take.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, Booth will present a free artist lecture a in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. The public and college community are invited to attend. The exhibit will close on Sunday, May 31.

This exhibit is presented at the Daum with funding from Mr. James O. Cooney, season underwriter; Mrs. Katherine A.
