A Kirksville man drowned while swimming in Forest Lake in Adair County Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32-year-old Nathan R. Stafford of Kirksville was swimming in the deeper end of the lake at Thousand Hills State Park just before 4 p.m., when he went under the water and did not resurface.

Stafford was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. by Adair County Coroner Brian Noe. The body was taken to Travis Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

This was Troop B's first drowning of the month and the second one for the year.

Kirsksville Police & Fire, Adair County Sheriff's Deputies and Ambulance, and State Park Rangers assisted the Troopers at the scene.
