Lady Grems Lose to Concordia in Home Opener

The Lady Gremlins fell short to a strong Concordia team in their home opener on Monday night, 21-25, 18-25, 21-25.

Freshman Addie Figgie led the Gremlins with 11 kills, followed by three from Avery Epple, Ava Judd and Emilee Jackson.

“Our girls did a good job at the net but Concordia's defense was solid, they recovered several great block attempts off of our girls that most nights would end in a celebration block to give us a point. Bailee Vogel was once again strong at the net, helping slow down their offense with several touches at the net and 2 great blocks,” said Head Coach Amy Epple.

“Jackson, Figgie, and Mariah Armstrong each had one block. Offensively we had a lot of swings but our serve receive struggled at times making it hard for our setters to get a good pass.  Freshman Birkli Martin led the Gremlins with 16 serve receives and had seven digs.  Figgie led with 10 digs and Libero Kynslee Prewitt was right behind her with eight for the night.  Senior Setter Avery Epple led the team with 16 assists.

"I was happy with our serving, we cut our miss serves by 66 percent, only missing five serves all night. We are looking forward to taking the good things we did tonight and improving in the areas we struggled with and be ready to go Wednesday night against Sweet Springs at home,' commented Coach Epple.

JV took the Lady Orioles to 3 sets 20-25, 25-18, 21-25 but also fell short to get the win. Ebrinn Cahill led with 4 kills, Molly Brown and Maggie Van Leer both had 3 for the Gremlins. Defensively Emily Tienda once again led the back row with serve receives and digs while also going 11/11 from the serving line. Kieran Cahill led the team with assists and aces for the night.

The Gremlins will be playing at home on Wednesday against Sweet Springs and Thursday against the Tipton Cardinals.
