An eastern Missouri man is jailed after allegedly banging on a police station door and confessing: "I murdered my father."

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 23-year-old Brandon Spies of Elsberry is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is jailed on $500,000 bond. Officers found 53-year-old Richard Spies dead in the basement of a home. He had been stabbed.

Police say Brandon Spies was frantically banging on the door of the Elsberry police station Saturday night. When an officer answered, Spies allegedly said, "I murdered my father." He told the officer he and his father had been in a fight when he stabbed him in the neck.

Elsberry, a town of 2,000 residents, is 60 miles north of St. Louis.
