Manuel Chosen To Coach SFCC Shooting Team
State Fair Community College has named Sarah Manuel as the first Head Coach of the Clay Target Shooting Team.
The college expanded their athletics program with the addition of the target shooting team in Sedalia and the Lake of the Ozarks, The team will begin competition during the 2021-2022 academic year at SFCC.
“I welcome the challenge in starting a program from scratch and building a rich history behind our college,” said Manuel. “Prospective athletes are hungry for a sport like this because there aren’t many opportunities to continue beyond high school and we hope to provide them with a venue to continue and hone their skills as target shooters. It is exciting."
Manuel serves as the Apprenticeship Coordinator at SFCC and brings an impressive resume in both high school and collegiate shooting sports to the program.
Manuel participated at the Missouri High School State Shoot for three years during her high school career as a member of the Kearney High School Trap Club, where Manuel also served as a Squad Leader for two years. She won two individual national championships at the Academics Integrity and Marksmanship National Championships in 2012 and 2013.
Manuel continued her shooting career with the University of Central Missouri Shooting Sports Club for two years. She helped her team to nine High Over-All Team Sponsored Shoots. Manuel earned ACUI (the Collegiate Shooting governing body) 16th place in American Trap. Manuel also earned two Junior Olympic Invitations.
Manuel transferred to Missouri Valley College where she helped her team to an ACUI fifth place finish as a team in their division.
“I’m looking for student-athletes that enjoy shooting sports on a competitive or hobby level,” said Manuel. “I would be more than willing to help anyone who is willing to participate. I am super excited to bring this team to the community and very excited to see where it can go.”
