A Missouri doctor has been sentenced to probation for obstructing an FBI investigation into the overbilling of Medicare.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says in a news release that 49-year-old Vidal Sheen of St. Louis County was also ordered Friday to pay $45,000 in fines and more than $142,000 in restitution to Medicare and several private insurance companies.

Sheen pleaded guilty in July in July to obstructing the FBI investigation by falsifying medical records he produced in response to a subpoena regarding his office visits in 2016.

The plea agreement says Sheen operated a medical office in St. Louis County where he falsified patients’ symptoms and histories. Prosecutors say he also created false entries reflecting he had seen patients in his office when he was actually out of town.
