Missouri Gov. Mike Parson spoke in favor of Proposition D Friday afternoon during a stop at State Fair Community College.

Parson noted that Missouri has the seventh largest highway system in the nation, but is 49th when it comes to funding that system.

The proposal, if approved by voters Nov. 6, will increase the gas tax two-and-a-half cents per year for four years in a row, for a total of 10 cents per gallon. The last time Missouri increased its gas tax was 22 years ago, when it approved a 17-cent hike under Gov. Ashcroft.

Prop D will be decided by voters statewide on Tuesday. Nov. 6.
