At the 2024 International Association of Fairs & Expositions (IAFE) Convention, Center for Human Services (CHS) and the Missouri State Fair received two first-place national awards.

The awards were for the Sponsorship Innovation and the Facility Beautification Project, recognizing the progressive efforts to enhance accessibility at the 2024 Missouri State Fair. The partnership between Center for Human Services and the Missouri State Fair reflects the commitment to paving the way for accessibility through critical resources and services across Missouri.

The first award, for Facility Beautification, was presented for the transformation of the former Morton Building into the Sensory and Accessibility Resource Center. This newly renovated space served as a quiet, climate-controlled area offering sensory activities and resources for visitors who experienced overstimulation. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the center supported nearly 550 individuals and families. One family shared their appreciation, saying, "The building is truly a blessing to families like ours attending the fair. We would not be able to come to the fair if it weren't for this quiet place to go every two hours."

The second first-place award for Innovation, recognized CHS’s Accessible Matting in the track area of the Grandstand. CHS provided over 350 feet of accessible matting on the track, creating easy access to accessible seating, regardless of weather conditions. Beyond these award-winning initiatives, the partnership also introduced an accessible map to guide visitors to key resources and amenities, as well as Sensory-Friendly Time on the carnival midway in collaboration with carnival operator, Wade Shows, Inc.

This partnership reflects CHS's ongoing mission to provide exceptional services to individuals of all ages across Missouri, helping them overcome physical, mental, and financial challenges. Center for Human Services and the Missouri State Fair will continue to offer sensory and accessibility resources at the 2025 Missouri State Fair, providing an inclusive and welcoming experience for all.'
