State Fair Community College has announced the new Medical Assistant program coordinator at the Clinton campus.

SFCC says Jill Semau joined the college in August and brings years of experience as a Credentialed (Certified) Medical Assistant and a Certified Professional Coder.

She has worked as a medical assistant at Tanner Clinic in Layton, Utah, and as a medical assistant instructor at Ogden-Weber Technical College in Ogden, Utah. Semau spent 20 years as a missionary for Youth With A Mission/ University of the Nations in countries such as Kenya, Bulgaria, Brazil, Thailand, Irian Jaya, and the South Pacific.  She also served medically as well as an educator.

As SFCC’s Medical Assistant program coordinator and instructor, Semau looks forward to growing the program and seeing trained medical assistants employed in Clinton and surrounding communities.

“Many people may not know what a medical assistant is and the important role that person plays on their healthcare team,” said Semau. “They don’t realize the person at the doctor’s office taking blood pressure, giving injections, drawing blood and answering questions is often a medical assistant.”

SFCC’s Medical Assistant program offers a Professional Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science degree. Classes are conducted online with an afternoon on-site class to learn clinical skills.

Prospective students must complete a medical assistant application for acceptance into the program. The application and more information is available here. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2019.
