Architectural Digest's website just published its list of 55 beautiful small towns, and the first town on the list is one you've probably driven by many, many, times.

I'm talking about Rocheport. Ya know, the town where Interstate 70 crosses the Missouri River, about two hours from both Kansas City and St. Louis. The town is some great company too. Other towns, perhaps a little more known than Rocheport that make the list include Galena, Illinois; Mystic, Connecticut; Deadwood, South Dakota; Big Sky, Montana; St. Augustine, Florida; Marfa, Texas; Holland, Michigan; and Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

Architectural Digest highlights its location along our popular Katy Trail and highlights the following about the town:

"It boasts many B and Bs for a weekend getaway but also keeps locals engaged with many buildings on the National Register of Historic Places."

They're not kidding when it comes to bed and breakfasts, Rocheport-mo.com lists nine different B and Bs, from The Bluff House to the Girls Nite Inn and the School House Bed and Breakfast.

When it comes to shopping, if you love antiques, art, and wine, Rocheport should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Rocheport-mo.com has a great starting list too.

Additionally, Rocheport is home to Les Bourgeois Vineyards which has produced some award-winning wines. On the property is a bed and breakfast, a bistro, a wine garden, a tasting room, and more. While not necessarily in town, Rocheport-mo.com lists, Warm Springs Ranch, home of the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales, as one of their attractions

One thing is for sure, if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you don't need to travel very far out of Sedalia or West Central Missouri to find a little bit of peace. Just head towards Booneville and Columbia on Highway 70 and check into one of Rocheport's B and Bs. Browse the antique and art shops, and enjoy a glass or two of wine overlooking the Missouri River.
