A meet & greet between Pettis County Commissioners and the incoming mayor and city council members was held Monday morning at the Pettis County Courthouse, 415 S. Ohio.

The purpose of the meeting was to “let the newly-elected officials know the County really wants to work with the City (and vice versa),” said Pettis County Presiding Commissioner Bill Taylor after the 45-minute meeting.

“We have a lot of projects that are going to be going on the next several years, as we grow out here northeast of town. And we just want them to know that we are very open to it, and didn’t want them to feel isolated, and just let them know we’re human, too, and want to work together,” Taylor commented.

“Our doors are open to everyone who’s a county resident, and even to those are not.

When asked what he thought was accomplished by Monday morning’s meeting, Williams replied “A great relationship in the future. You  know, I want to lean on some of the other mayors of Pettis County. We have the largest municipality. And if can serve then in any kind of capacity, that legally, and I think we need to explore those options as well, establishing a relationship with them, and as far as MoDOT as well, I think we can do some major things with them, moving forward.”

Williams added that he anticipates more formal meetings with his friends on the Commission. “I have a personal relationship with them as well, Williams noted.

The meeting was attended by all three Commissioners, as well as City Administrator Matt Wirt, Mayor Traves Williams, Third Ward Councilman David Covington, Fourth Ward Councilman Spencer Redford and State Rep. Brad Pollitt.

Most of the participants stuck around well after the meeting was over to chat.
