Money raised at the annual McKinley Day in Sedalia was forwarded to Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders at a political campaign stop on Thursday, July 28 at Best Western, 32nd and Limit.

A total of $1250 was raised from various individuals and the Pettis County Republican Committee to be used to purchase a bullet-proof ballistic vest for Pettis County K-9 Lord, who appeared at the event, along with his trainer Sgt. Matt Long.

The money originally was raised through a 50-50 drawing for K-9 Cav in 2021, but the company they wanted to purchase it from did not accept checks from a political party, according to Pettis County Republican Chairwoman Carla Young.

In the meantime, a grant was utilized to purchase a ballistic vest for K-9 Cav, so the money raised went to K-9 Lord, Young explained.

Sherif Brad Anders said "the vest will help keep Lord safe while he's out patrolling the streets of Pettis County. None of this could have been possible without the help of Pettis County Prosecutor Phillips Sawyer."

Sheriff Anders will make the purchase using the funds presented to him Thursday during a campaign stop by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, who is one of 21 Republicans vying for the seat vacated by US Senator Roy Blunt, who is not running for re-election.

A total of 11 Democrats are also running to replace Blunt. Tuesday, Aug. 2 is the Primary Election.
