S-C’s Osteen Earns UCM Bands Scholarship

Smith-Cotton High School senior Blake Osteen has accepted a Marching and Concert Band Scholarship from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Osteen, the son of Dane and Melanie Osteen, has earned three varsity letters in band and was a drum major for the Smith-Cotton Tiger Pride Marching Band his senior year.

He also was a soloist with the marching band and concert band and received the John Phillip Sousa Band Award. Osteen was a Link Crew leader, member of FBLA and competed in wrestling and baseball for the Tigers.

S-C Director of Bands Grant Maledy said, “Blake has been a fantastic student who helps students come together and work towards common goals. Blake has a bright future ahead of him and he'll be missed here at S-C.”

Blake Osteen performs a trombone solo during the Smith-Cotton High jazz band’s set as part of the annual Spring Band and Jazz Band Concert on May 13 in the Heckart Performing Arts Center. Osteen will attend the University of Central Missouri on a Marching and Concert Band Scholarship.
