A revitalization effort for a historic commercial district must include an assessment of stakeholder needs and strategies for successful recruitment engagement. Through the innovative work of the SDDI organization committee, Sedalia Downtown Development, Inc. will move into a new phase of marketing and promoting Sedalia Downtown that recognizes a market shift to focus on health, wellness, fitness, beauty, arts, culture and entertainment.

The new branding is designed to attract new energy to the district and provide an image that reflects the passion of our merchants and supporters.

Through the integration of a new website and social media resources, we hope to deliver a fresh look at our beautiful historic district. Our community is very fortunate to have our downtown a National Historic District, filled with a multitude of architectural gems and a rich local history but we recognize it also extends an excellent opportunity for growth and entrepreneurship.

The central commercial district is broadly accepted as a local gathering place filled with frequent activities and events. Plans are underway for the addition of a venue park space and green area to help in further securing a sense of place of community pride. More people living in upper floor lofts and apartments within walking district of the district create pedestrian traffic and meaningful interaction of neighbors.

SDDI has chosen the branding of “The Avenues” with tagline “Discover the Passion” for its new marketing strategy designed to strengthen the existing commercial base and expand economic opportunities for downtown Sedalia Downtown.

The Avenues reflects the grid of the more than 56 blocks comprising the downtown district as all the north-south thoroughfares are designated as avenues, i.e. Ohio Avenue, Osage Avenue, etc. In designing the logo, the term “venues” is enhanced and many other elements of logo design are integrated into the image. We believe the greatest asset among our downtown merchants and investors is their passion for what they do on a daily basis.

It is expected that The Avenues and Downtown Sedalia will be used in combinative forms or interchangeably for some period of time. SDDI invites the public to take ownership of the new branding strategy and hopes it reaches its objective in expressing the energy and vibrancy of our historic district.
