Our Central Bank of Sedalia’s Unsung Hero for July is Drake Davis.

Drake is the 13-year-old who sprang into action last November when a 5-year-old boy fell into the cold water of Liberty Park Pond and began struggling. Bystanders were calling for help and Drake heard the pleas.

The child fell in after slipping from the island in the middle of the pond.

“I was over on the other side where the stock the fish when I heard the whistling and yelling. threw off my shoes, and threw down my wallet. I tried to grab the edge with one hand and grab him with another. I just pulled him up as much as I could. I just about slipped, then someone grabbed my shirt in hopes of puling me and him up,’ Drake recalled.

Drake will be in the eighth grade this fall at Smithton Middle School. He stated that his favorite subject is science.

“It was really easy for me. I like it a lot,” Drake said, adding that he would like to specialize in chemistry.

When not studying in school, Drake, who was born in Warsaw, said he likes crappie fishing.

“But I love trout fishing,” he noted. “And in my free time, I go bass fishing. I do that all the time.”

He has the best luck fishing at Liberty Pond. Not so much at Clover Dell Lake. “I have zero luck out there,” he said.

Drake has a business that he is currently developing, a business that sells fly fishing lures.

He most recently made an online sale to a customer in Florida, which was very exciting to him.

Drake was nominated for Central Bank of Sedalia's Unsung Hero by his grandmother Sharon Weathers, who said that Drake “will do anything for anybody.”
