Memory Lanes ‘On Target’ for November 9 Grand Opening
The Sedalia Park Board’s 13-minute meeting on Sept. 10 was led by Assistant Director of Parks John Simmons in the absence of Parks Director Amy Epple.
Under the Director’s Report, Simmons stated that “we’re on target” for the opening date for Memory Lanes, which is Monday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m.
Mark Stinson was announced as the Maintenance Supervisor at Memory Lanes Bowling Center last week.
Maggie Lambert (formerly a manager at Arby’s) has been hired as the kitchen manager at Memory Lanes. She officially starts work on Friday, Sept. 18.
Holly Morgan has been hired as the lead attendant at Memory Lanes. She also starts work this week.
Simmons said of all the new hires, that “customer service is their hallmark.”

Also, a new sports coordinator will be hired soon for Parks & Rec after Tanner McKeee left to pursue a teaching career at Northwest High School.
Brunswick has finished its job at the bowling center, Simmons noted.
The dry wall is now being painted.

Part-time employees at the bowling center/ E-sports area/restaurant will be hired soon.
Jeff Lynde will split his time between being the IT man for Parks & Rec, and being the director of E-sports at Memory Lanes.

With Smith-Cotton Junior High being located across the highway from Memory Lanes, it was noted that the junior high kids are welcome at the bowling center until 5 p.m., when a chaperone will be required. There will be no loitering.

Parks & Rec hopes to be presented with the keys to the new facility in a few short weeks so training can begin in anticipation of opening day. Sue Heckart is expected to throw the first bowling ball during the ceremony.
Park Board accepted a bid from Trenary’s Tree Care Service, based out of Panoma, Kansas, a tiny burg located west of Ottawa, Kansas on Highway 68.
Trenary was the low bidder at $6925. They will be removing diseased trees (mainly ash) from Katy, Hubbard and Liberty Park, Simmons said. Simmons added that the company received great recommendations from others with glowing reviews.
In his financial report, Board member Dan VanDyne stated that Parks & Rec's budget year to date is up a little over five percent.
