Fireworks in Downtown Sedalia Canceled for Thanksgiving Night

Hotel Bothwell, alongside the City of Sedalia and Sedalia Main Streets, is sharing a heartfelt update regarding tonight’s Thanksgiving Night Lighting and Fireworks Celebration.

Due to a tragic accident involving our longtime fireworks partner, AM Pyrotechnics in Buffalo, Missouri, the fireworks show scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

Our hearts are heavy as we acknowledge the devastating circumstances they are facing. With deep respect for everyone impacted—including the AM Pyrotechnics team, their families, and the first responders—this evening’s fireworks show is not able to proceed.

According to reporting by KYTV in Springfield, firefighters responded to the fire around 9:30 a.m., at the AM Pyrotechnics company near Buffalo on Wednesday on East 535th Road. The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

We know how much this tradition means to Sedalia. For many families, the music, the lights, and firework display over downtown mark the true beginning of the holiday season. This year, that beginning comes with compassion and community at the center.

What is still happening tonight:
The Lighting Countdown WILL continue at 7:00 p.m.
We will still gather in historic downtown to kick off the holiday season together. The Hotel Bothwell and surrounding area will light up as scheduled, and we invite everyone to come be part of that shared moment.

Downtown is open — come celebrate local:
Some local businesses will remain open tonight, and we hope you’ll still come downtown to enjoy the warmth of the season, support our neighbors, and count down with us.
