SFCC Announces Rochelle Hockett as Technical Education Liaison
State Fair Community College has announced Rochelle Hockett as the Technical Education Liaison.
This is a new position that is funded by a federal grant from the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. These funds support the development of academic and career and technical skills among secondary and post-secondary education students across the nation.
The mission of the Technical Education Liaison is to inform students about in-demand, good paying business and technical careers and the 66 programs SFCC offers. The liaison focuses on building relationships with current and prospective students, community and business partners, and Career Technical Centers through a variety of outreach activities.
Increasing awareness of high potential careers and SFCC’s programs will increase enrollment and strengthen the area’s workforce and economy.
SFCC’s commitment to expanding access and increasing enrollment in career and technical education aligns with the college’s mission to “provide relevant and responsive learning experiences that empower students and communities to prosper."
Consequently, SFCC broke ground on the new Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center last week, which will expand the college’s welding, precision machining, industrial technology, and apprenticeship programs and enhance students’ leadership, supervisory and logistic skills.
“Rochelle will be integral to the continued success of our technical programs,” said SFCC President Joanna Anderson. “She will help connect the college to our business partners and communities and showcase our new Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center and other resources we have dedicated to career and technical education and workforce development."
Hockett began her new position on Nov. 1. She joined SFCC full-time in 2016 as the Assistant Director of Business Development for The LearningForce. She worked with businesses and industries throughout the college’s 14-county service area to provide customized workforce training solutions. Since 2009, Hockett has been an adjunct business instructor at SFCC.
