State Fair Community College hosted the third annual Public Speaking Showcase on May 6 in the Stauffacher Theatre.

The event featured select students from public speaking courses during the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters presenting their best works.

SFCC President Dr. Brent Bates, Sedalia attorney and SFCC alumnus Tina Luper and Faculty Association President Dustin Walbom served as judges.

Riley Heerdink, a freshman Associate of Arts student, received first place and a $225 scholarship for her presentation, “Fort Worth Stockyards.” Business marketing student Ava Kirkpatrick placed second and received a $100 scholarship for her speech, “How AI is Changing Society.” Gentrie Davis, a dual credit student from Marshall, took third place with her speech, “Defining Agriculture."

Hetvi Thakkar, a first-year biology student, and Alexa Phillips, a dual credit student from Clinton, were finalists.
