State Fair Community College has hired a new Admissions and Outreach director.

A press release from SFCC says that Dr. Tywanna (Ty) Nance is the new director. Her first day at SFCC was January 16.

Nance previously worked as assistant admissions director at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke before coming to SFCC.

The press release says Nance's experience includes enrollment management, research and data analysis, business development and training, customer service, communications, and leadership. Prior to working at UNC Pembroke, Nance held admission positions at Lincoln College of Technology, Maryland; The Art Institute of Washington in Arlington, Virginia; and was an adjunct professor at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland.

“The term ‘educator’ is oftentimes used to refer to those in an instructional role inside the classroom,” says Nance. “However, I believe professionals across the campus who work in student affairs, admissions and administration are educators as well. When these entities actively partner with academics to fulfill the mission of the college, students are given the best opportunity to be more invested and engaged in their learning and are more likely to persist to graduation. Each day, I look forward to making my contribution to student success.”

In 2017, Nance earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Argosy University, and in 2009 she earned a Master of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Strayer University. Nance graduated from University of South Carolina Upstate in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

SFCC says that Nance served in the United States Army Reserves with the 413th Chemical Company in Florence, South Carolina for eight years. As a chemical operations specialist, she executed general security tactics, managed hazardous materials, carried out reconnaissance details, and completed the U.S. Army Chemical School with honors.

Dr. Joe Gilgour, the dean of Student and Academic Support Services, said "We are pleased Dr. Nance has joined the Admissions and Outreach team. Her education, skills and life experiences, along with her passion for guiding students toward their goals, fit well with our mission to prepare students for life.”
