SFCC Roadrunners Ready for Tip-Off at National Championship Tournament
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners will play in the first round of the NJCAA Men's National Championship in Hutchinson, Kan. against the Shelton State Community College Buccaneers from Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Tuesday morning (March 18) at 10.
The Roadrunners will have their hands full since the Buccaneers have three players who average in double-figure scoring for the season. Sophomore guard Albert Lynch, III leads his team in scoring averaging 14.7 points per game. Sophomore forward Bradon Moss contributes 12.2 points per game. Sophomore guard Jalen Houston is third on team with 10.8 points per contest.
In addition, the Roadrunners will need to watch freshman forward Justin Simon on the boards since he averages 8.5 per contest. Moss averages 6.7 rebounds per game.
The National Tournament has been a long time coming for the SFCC men's team. This will be the Roadrunners' third National Tournament appearance. The first one was during the 1971-1972 season under Head Coach Bill Barton. The last appearance for the program came during the 1975-1976 season under Coach Barton. They lost to Connors State in the opening round 90-63. SFCC lost to Casper 65-59.
The Lady Roadrunners lost in the first round 63-60 versus Western Nebraska on Monday morning March 17.
