SEDALIA—The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present a free student theatre showcase at 7 p.m. May 7-8 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in the Yeater Learning Center, Room 126, on the Sedalia campus.

The showcase will feature four short student-directed, one-act plays, a collaborative project of students in SFCC’s acting, directing and stagecraft classes. Admission is free and reservations are not required. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Performances are rated R for mature audiences. Plays will include:

“Life as a Techie or something like it!” by Christopher Fleitas, directed by Tristin Baro, Sedalia.

Like most high school activities, theatre doesn't come easy to clueless Newbie. The increasing rivalry between the actors and the techies nearly forces him to quit drama for good. But then he meets Kinsey, a wise set designer, who is determined to help him find his true calling. When the actors finally cross the line, the techies initiate their revenge plan to destroy the musical, and it's up to Newbie to unite the drama department ... Broadway style!

Cast members include Michael Holgate, Sedalia; Eligio Banda, California; Maddy Ross, Sedalia; Victor Garzon, Marshall; Brendan Twenter, Boonville; Client Fergason, Lexington; and Sam Carter, Blue Springs.

“Sex Lives of Superheroes” by Stephen Gregg, directed by Dalton Grafton, Lexington.

Michael is so obsessed with his old girlfriend, Lisa, that he allows her weekly visits to his apartment—which she strips, piece by piece, of his possessions. Elenor, Michael's date for the evening, is appalled to find that he copes with his frustrations by giving fantasy lectures about the sexual habits of comic book heroes. The two seem a complete mismatch until Michael discovers that Elenor has her own obsession.

Cast members include Maria Banda, Sedalia, Tyler Adlich, Lexington, James Jones, Windsor; Dalton Morris, Odessa; Drew Boyet, Warrensburg; and Jessica Young, Sedalia.

“Women in Heat” by Rich Orloff, directed by Adriana Luffman, Owensville.

When three young women from Ohio vacation in Key West, two of them have extreme (and extremely different) responses when they learn about an erotic adventure the third had the night before. When a man from that night presents the three of them with a daring offer, the women realize they're not in Ohio anymore.

Cast members include Jessi Rigdon, Sedalia; Stephanie Schumacher, Monett; Aaron Rodgers, Osage Beach; and Marco Cesar, Sedalia.

“Ruff Life: A Backyard Tail” by SFCC alumnus Kacy Barta, directed by Kristen Henning, adjunct instructor.

Sparky is enjoying his bone when he hears his new neighbor Jack barking on the other side of the fence. The two seem like they could hit it off if only they could get on the same page! Will Crazy Owl be able to convince Jack to give friendship with Sparky another chance?

Cast members include Jeff Stockdall, Sedalia; Tristin Baro, Sedalia; and Becky Keightly Scott, adjunct instructor.

Crew for all the shows is Colton Graham, Owensville.
