Six Smith-Cotton High School seniors on Tuesday, April 29, accepted academic scholarships to perform in vocal music groups at State Fair Community College.

Cesia Argueta, Abigail Dake, Marcuis Lamar, Harrison Ray, Bailee Spencer and Cole Wendt are currently members of S-C’s New Score Singers varsity show choir.

• Argueta was an All-State Show Choir member in 2024 and earned an Exemplary rating at the District contest. Smith-Cotton Vocal Music Director Avery Mather said, "Cesia is a strong leader and has a bright personality. She always has a sense of humor and is always willing to work hard.”

• Dake is a four-year member of New Score, was selected for the All-State Choir twice, is a three-time competitor at the State Music Contest and was a member of the All-State Show Choir. Mather said, “Abby has been a leader on and off stage for the last four years and is a very deserving individual for this scholarship. She will continue to thrive in her musical endeavors for long after she graduates. She will be missed from our program dearly.”

• Lamar is a four-year member of New Score, a three-time competitor at the State Music Contest, an All-State Choir Member and three-time selection to the All-State Show Choir. Mather said, “Marcuis embodies the very essence of performance. He is deeply passionate about performing and will continue to do great things after graduation. His desire to improve is admired by all of his peers, and his influence will have long-standing effects on the success of our program.”

• Ray is a two-year member of New Score. Mather said, “Harrison has only been a member of the show choirs for a short time but his contributions have been impactful. He has a plethora of performance experience through years of dance and musical theater and is going to make many positive contributions to the world of music after graduation.”

• Spencer is a three-year member of New Score, a competitor at the State Music Contest and a member of the All-District Treble Choir. Mather said, “Bailee is a light amongst her peers. Her positive attitude is infectious and her love for singing and performing will take her far. She will certainly be missed.”

• Wendt is a four-year member of New Score, a three-time competitor at the State Music Contest and a member of the 2025 All State Choir. Mather said, “Cole is a wonderful musician who spends his free time practicing guitar and singing as much as he can. His work ethic will take him far in whatever endeavors he pursues in life.”

Dr. Chris Kindle, State Fair Community College music director, said bringing these students in is special, since he previously was the vocal music director at Smith-Cotton. “It really touches the heart,” he said. “I got to watch them grow from freshman year through senior year now, and see them advance as singers, as performers, and just as human beings as a whole. I am truly excited to have them come and keep sharing their love of music with the world through State Fair.”
