SFCC to Offer Dentokan Martial Arts Classes

Starting in May, State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce will offer Dentokan Martial Arts classes for ages 5-12 and 13 and up in Hopkins Student Services Center, Room 714.

The classes are suitable for all skill levels and meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Youth meet 6-7 p.m., and the older group meets 7-8 p.m.

Dentokan follows the traditional martial arts of Japan and Okinawa for recreation and self-defense to earn belt ranks. Training includes, but is not limited to, basic punching, kicking and blocking techniques; self-defense maneuvers; emphasis on katas or forms; and kumite or sparring.

With consistent practice and attendance, students may gain rank by testing for recommended belt degrees. Dan Brigman, a third degree Black Belt, is the instructor. Multiple class and Primetime discounts are offered.
