State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce is offering a series of weekend Basic Rider Courses starting in April and concluding in October on the Sedalia campus.

The basic two-day training is for people with little or no knowledge of operating a motorcycle. A one-day Basic Rider Course 2 for people who want to refresh or sharpen their riding skills will be offered 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 or Aug. 6.

The cost of the weekend Basic Rider Course is $249 per person, and class size is limited to 10 participants. Minimum age is 15 ½ years old. A signed waiver is required for anyone under 18 years old. This course is in high demand, so early enrollment is recommended. Classes are not normally canceled because of rain.

Motorcycles will be supplied by Yeager’s Cycles for the Basic Rider Course; however, there is a list of required items that each rider must provide. Participants who successfully complete the Basic Rider Course will have the written and rider skills test portions for the state license waived; some insurance companies may offer a discount on rates for completing the riding course.

Riders who want to take the one-day Basic Rider Course 2 must provide their own motorcycle and a copy of current liability insurance and motorcycle endorsement, permit or license prior to the class. Cost is $129 per person.
