State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce is offering an online Community Health Worker (CHW) course that will be conducted Jan. 19 through May 14, 2021.

The Community Health Worker 16-week online course is for anyone interested in learning about the role of a CHW and for credentialed medical assistants, service coordinators and agency staff serving clients who need access to health care programs. A CHW conducts outreach services for organizations that promote individual and community health.

Topics covered in the class include how to motivate clients and families to set and reach health goals; how to assess clients’ eligibility for services; and how to assist with completing applications and registration forms. Students will learn about community resources and how to work with medical providers to ensure clients have comprehensive and coordinated care.

Tuition is waived and funded by the Community Health Worker grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Registration is required as class size is limited.

As part of the course, students must complete 60 hours of unpaid outreach and service hours; however, some exceptions may apply. Prior to class, students must read and sign the Code of Ethics for CHW. Course materials will be provided to enrolled students.

For more information and to register, go to sfccmo.edu/the-learning-force, click Schedule of Courses and locate the Community Education Schedule. For questions, call Christina Borgmeyer at  (660) 596-7236 or email cborgmeyer1@sfccmo.edu.
