Push-in Ceremony Scheduled for December 11

A push-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m., for the City’s new aerial truck at the SFD’s headquarters at 2606 W. 16th Street.

The public is invited to help “push in” the new T-2 fire truck into service.

The tradition dates back to the 1800s, when firefighters manually pushed horse-drawn fire carts into the station after a call because the horses couldn't back them up.

Today, it is a symbolic event that honors history and welcomes new apparatus, and it can also include community members.
