Snake Eats Flathead Catfish at Missouri Lake
I've been fishing many times. I've seen a lot of snakes. But until today I had never seen a snake eating a flathead!
The Missouri Department of Conservation received this photo from Larry Rottmann of Springfield. Mr. Rottmann reportedly took the picture last week while fishing at Stockton Lake. The Department of Conservation says that the snake is a non-venomous northern watersnake, and its dinner is a flathead catfish.
According to the Department of Conservation's Facebook post, Rottmann first saw the snake and the fish thrashing in the water, and then watched as the snake brought the fish on shore to eat it. I'm not crazy about snakes, so as cool as it would be to capture a picture of this scene, I think I'm glad that it was Larry Rottmann, and not me, that had the privilege!
