Watch Heroes Rescue a Missouri Woman & Dog from an Icy Pond
This could have been tragic, but instead it's a moment of heroism on display as a Missouri woman and her dog were rescued from an icy pond.
I saw this story shared by Newsweek. It's based on a video shared by the City of Springfield, Missouri on their Facebook page showing Springfield Fire Department's Water Rescue Team come to the aid of a woman who went into an icy pond to rescue her dog which had fallen through and then had to be rescued herself. This happened Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2025.
There's no confirmation at this time about who called for help after the woman fell through the ice to try and rescue her dog, but that person likely saved her life as she was definitely in a life-threatening situation with the water at such a bitterly cold temperature.
The Springfield, Missouri Fire Department reportedly used special ice rescue equipment to help the woman and her dog. They advised everyone to never try and rescue someone who's fallen through the ice by themselves as their special training is the only way this can be done safely without jeopardizing others.
