Authorities in Springfield are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred shortly after officers left the scene.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that officers were called to a home Monday morning on a disturbance report. Police say that when the officers arrived they learned that several people involved had already left the scene. Officers then left to look for the other people.

Not long after the officers left, they heard gunshots coming from the house.

The victim, who was identified as 38-year-old Jonathan L. McCrary, was dead when police returned.

A suspect has been taken into custody, but it's unclear if charges have been filed.
