Strange Laws On Books In States Where I Lived

So I began my radio career in a small town of Baker, Montana. 

It is not unusual for those of us in radio, to move around from town to town, looking for the next opportunity to continue in our radio career.  Baker was quite an experience for me.  I was only there for 5 months, and the town was very small.  Rural.  I describe it as Mayberry. A one stoplight town, no restaurants, just bars that served food, and the next town over was 40 minutes away. There was no mail delivery to your home.  EVERYTHING went through the Post Office.

In each state I have lived, there are certain laws on the books that are a bit odd.  So I thought I would share a few with you.  Feel free to share some odd laws that you are aware of in any state that you have lived in.

Montana:

1.  It is illegal for married women to go fishing alone on Sundays

2.   You’re breaking the law in Montana if you have more than one alarm clock ringing at the same time.  And one alarm should be plenty!

3.  It is a felony in Montana for a wife to open her husband’s mail.

4.   Don’t even think about pretending to abuse an animal in front of a minor in Montana. It’s illegal. And kind of cruel.  Just let them be.

Illinois:

1.  In Evanston, it's illegal to change clothes in a car with the curtains drawn, except in the case of a fire.

2.  You cannot fish, while sitting on a giraffe's neck while in Chicago.  Or fly a kite within the city limits.

3.  In Galesburg Illinois, NO person may keep a smelly dog.  (Good!)

4.  You cannot urinate on a street sign in Normal IL.

Indiana:

1.  Mustaches are illegal if the person has a tendency to habitually kiss others.

2.  Drinks on the house are illegal.

3.  Can't catch a fish with a crossbow.  (That's no fun)

4.  Can't enter a movie house, theater or street car within 4 hours of eating garlic.

Missouri:

1.  It's illegal to drive with an uncaged bear.

2.  Brothel Law says it's illegal for 4 women who are not related, to rent an apartment together.

3. In Kansas City, a child can buy a shotgun, but not a toy cap gun

4. In Columbia MO, clotheslines are not allowed, but you can hang your clothes on a fence post.

So these are the 4 states I have lived in, with a few weird laws on the books.  Feel free to share a strange law on the book in your home state.
