Summer Reading Program at Sedalia Public Library Under Way
The Sedalia Public Library, 311 W. 3rd Street, held a kickoff for its summer reading program Monday afternoon with the theme “Adventure begins at your library.”
Library Director Jamie Sparks said the program will last eight weeks, and feature a special program every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
On Wednesday, June 5, the Boys Scouts will present a segment on survival, and on Wednesday June 12, “we have the Kansas City Exotic Animals coming” to Sedalia Public Library,” Sparks noted.
She emphasized that the reading program is designed for both kids and adults. “Anybody who wants to read.”
Preschool storytime is at 10 a.m., every Thursday.
“We also have events for adults and all ages throughout June and July,” Sparks noted, adding that the numbers of minutes that participants read are tracked.
There will also be prizes that can be won during the summer program.

Sparks said she was pleased with the turnout on Monday, with lots of families showing up at the library to sign up for the program.
“The best place to look for our events is on our website,” Sparks pointed out. We have an events calendar on there. We periodically have Saturday events also,” she said. “So we just have a lot of events going on in June and July for kids, teens and adults.”
