The FIFA World Cup Could Be Coming To Kansas City. Would You Be Excited?
In the United States, our most popular sport is probably American football.
The Super Bowl is the most watched event on television every year. Baseball now is probably 2nd, but you could argue that either one at one time is the most popular in our country. But around the world, the most popular sport, by far is soccer. It isn't even close. The World Cup is the most popular event. It may be coming to Kansas City.
After months of waiting and delays, FIFA announced they will reveal the cities that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States on June 16. Kansas City is one of 16 cities with a bid to be one of the 11 host cities in 2026.
The 16 cities that are vying for a chance to host are:
Atlanta
Baltimore/Washington D.C
Boston
Cincinnati
Dallas
Denver
Houston
Kansas City
Los Angeles
Miami
Nashville
New York/New Jersery
Orlando
Philadelphia
San Francisco
Seattle
The FIFA World Cup selection committee visited Kansas City last October as part of a tour to several other candidate cities. You can read a bit more about this story HERE. The United States is joined by Mexico and Canada in hosting the tournament in 2026, with Canada having have two host sites and Mexico having three.
I am guessing that if Kansas City is selected that the games will be played at Arrowhead Stadium. According to Wikipedia the capacity of Arrowhead is 76,416. The 6th largest stadium in the NFL. I promise you that if we are selected, you can bet that place could be as loud as any Chiefs games. The revenue that could be generated for the city would be enormous. Let hope this happens.
