Two people were injured when a boat exploded at Lake of the Ozarks on Thursday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1988 Wellcraft, driven by 79-year-old Benny E. Thomas of Four Seasons, Mo., was at the 13-mile-marker in Wideford Hollow Cove at Lake of the Ozarks around 3:20 p.m. Thursday, when a mechanical failure caused an explosion within the engine compartment of the boat.

Thomas suffered minor injuries, and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach by Lake West EMS.

His passenger, 35-year-old Amanda M. Kingston of Wincote, Penn., suffered serious injuries, and was flown by MU Air to University of Missouri in Columbia for treatment.

The boat was totaled. The fire was extinguished and the boat subsequently sunk.

Gravois Mills Fire and Lake Ozark Fire assisted the three Troopers on scene.
