On Friday my wife Kathy brought Mike and me some of Applebee's Signature House Cocktails during our Friday Happy Hour Show.

Applebee's gets a lot of flack for supposedly being one of the worse chain restaurants you can patronize, but none of us really believe that. Mike mentioned he enjoys some of their menu items, likes their drink menu and finds the restaurant consistent. Kathy and I have a couple of favorites from Applebee's too. So what did we think of some of their current signature cocktails?  Read and listen to our on-air taste test to find out.

Kathy brought us four different cocktails off of Applebee's menu which we tried:

  • The new Breezy Bahama Mama is a frozen cocktail which Applebee's calls "Spring Break in a glass." It's made with Bacardi Superior, banana liquor, coconut, cherry, pineapple, and orange juice.
  • The Blue Aloha Mana Margarita which Applebee's says is a Hawaiian-inspired margarita. It's made with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's tequila brand, Teremana Blanco Tequila, blue curacao, pineapple juice, and lime.
  • The Shark Bowl is a frozen cocktail, which comes with a gummy shark in the drink. It's  made with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum and a wave of tropical fruit flavors.
  • The Captain Bahama Mama made with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Malibu coconut, creme de banana, pineapple, and orange juice.

Overall we liked all of the cocktails. There wasn't any one cocktail that we just wouldn't drink, although we did have some preferences. Here's what we thought:

Breezy Bahama Mama - I felt the banana liquor overpowered the drink, and Mike tasted the orange a little bit. Mike said, not bad. I said it was OK.

Blue Aloha Mana Margarita - Mike and I both liked this drink. Mike wanted the ingredients to make his own. Both of us thought it was very good.

The Shark Bowl - Neither Mike nor I could taste the spiced rum although we both liked the fruit flavor better than the Breezy Bahama Mama.

The Captain Bahama Mama - Both Mike and I thought the banana flavor was more muted than the Breezy Bahama Mama. And the rum flavors really came through, along with the pineapple and coconut flavor.

Mike and I agreed that the Blue Aloha Mana Margarita was our favorite, followed by The Captain Bahama Mama. Although overall we enjoyed all four of the cocktails. Listen to our on-air taste test below.
