Springfield Police say an officer shot a woman who tried to hit the officer with a car.

The incident happened about 6 a.m. Tuesday at a Fast N’ Friendly in the 500 block of West Chestnut Expressway after an officer identified a stolen vehicle.

An officer spotted a woman who was driving a stolen vehicle and tried to stop her. She allegedly drove at the officer, who fired several shots at the car. The woman fled the scene, but she was located by police a short time later on Commercial Street.

Investigators say the gunshot wounds do not appear life-threatening. Police Chief Paul Williams says Thrift was wanted on several warrants. She was transported to an area hospital.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the incident.
