A six year-old boy drowned Friday afternoon in the Elk River in McDonald County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The boy, who lived in Kansas City, waded out into the water about a mile and a half north of Noel (extreme southwest Missouri) around 2 p.m. and could not return to shore.

He was later recovered and taken to Freeman Neosho. Where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m. by Dr. Pace.

This was Troop D's 14th drowning for 2021.
